Foldable freshwater fishing gear that fits in a backpack
We build compact freshwater fishing gear designed to go where traditional gear doesn’t. Our foldable rod, collapsible net, and portable tackle box fit into backpacks, gloveboxes, kayaks, and carry-ons, so you’re ready when an opportunity to fish shows up.
Each piece is designed to remove the friction that keeps people from fishing more often. Less gear to carry. Less planning. More time on the water.
Travel fishing gear for backpackers, kayakers, and weekend trips
If you fish casually, infrequently, or in places where every gram in your pack counts, this is what we built. Most of our customers fall into one of five patterns:
- Backpackers and hikers who want a rod in a side pocket, not strapped to the outside of a pack.
- Kayak anglers who need gear that doesn't clutter the deck, hang off the side, or shift the balance of a loaded boat.
- Road-trippers who keep a rod and tackle box in the trunk so they can stop at lakes they pass instead of driving by them.
- Cabin and camping crowds who fish for an hour after dinner and don't want to haul a tackle bag through the woods to do it.
- New anglers who want one travel-ready setup instead of buying ten pieces from ten places.
Whether you’re hiking into a backcountry lake, keeping a rod in your vehicle, or packing light for a camping trip, the goal is the same: make fishing easier to bring along.
Built for the freshwater fishing most people actually do
CarryCast gear is designed for trout, bass, panfish, crappie, and other common freshwater species found in lakes, rivers, ponds, and creeks.
The rod uses a durable blend of carbon fiber and fiberglass, giving it the portability needed for travel while maintaining the strength and flexibility required for everyday fishing.
It’s built for real-world freshwater fishing—not as a novelty rod, but not as a heavy-duty saltwater or tournament setup either.
A complete travel fishing kit in three pieces
Each piece works on its own, and the four cover an entire trip from first cast to landing.
The CarryCast™ foldable travel rod is the core of the system. It arrives with line and reel pre-installed, so it's ready to fish the moment it's unfolded.
The CarryNet collapsible landing net handles the last step. It opens to full size for landing and folds back down for the trip home, with rubber netting that's gentle on fish for catch-and-release.
The CarryKit compact tackle box covers what goes on the line: a starter set of lures, hooks, and pliers in a case that fits the same backpack pocket as the rod.
For a complete setup at one combined price, the CarryCast™ Adventure Bundle packages all three together. Most gifting buyers and first-time anglers start there and add from it later.
A Canadian brand based in Fernie, BC
CarryCast was started by Dan in Fernie, British Columbia after one too many moments of discovering a great fishing spot and realizing his gear was sitting at home.
Most travel rods felt like gimmicks. Most high-end rods weren’t built for everyday portability. CarryCast was created to fill the gap between the two: a rod compact enough to bring almost anywhere, but capable enough to be a real fishing rod when you get there.
Since launch, more than 7,000 CarryCast rods have been shipped across Canada and the United States.
Our mission is simple: help people fish more by making it easier to bring their gear along.
